The story does become better, with some vivid insight into survival and consequences of being ill-prepared. Good story. Not sure it stands alone. Have read better. Turns out I read this book as part of last year's Thumbs Up when apparently I was supposed to be reading Book #2, <I>Spirit Walker</I>. Oops!
