The TItan's Curse by Rick Riordan
"The Friday before winter break, my mom packed me an overnight bag and a few deadly weapons and took me to a new boarding school." This book starts with this great first line and keeps the reader engaged and salivating for the still-to-come fourth book. YAY.
I enjoyed listening to the audio version of this book, but found it slightly confusing at times as I did not read any of the previous books in the series. That would certainly be a factor when I would consider recommending it to someone. I liked the adventure and appreciated that the main character, Percy, is so forthcoming with his ADHD and dyslexia. MAYBE
I loved it. Haven't read any of the others in this series (yet). Thought this would appeal to broader fantasy audience than most. Might even prompt teens to look into mythology. Love the role playing gaming thread with Nico. I liked the commonplace inclusion/awareness/acceptance of ADHD and dyslexia too. YAY
I thought it was great, but I was fairly lost so I don't know that it stands alone. That is my only complaint because it was smart, funny adn exciting, but I'm saying MAYBE.
I think this was a good, well-written fun and clever book that immediately grabbed my attention. However, it lost me at times and made me with I had read the previous two titles first. In the context of other great books I have read, this one isn't "award worthy" and it does't really stand on its own so much. So, I give it a NAY.

I am narrowing down my top choices for Feb 8 - and changing this one to a NAY. Still a great read :) but other prime candidates have edged it out.
Nay for me. Doesn't really stand alone for me like some of the other sequels and beyond.
