Rubber Houses by Ellen Yeomans
Older sister loses younger brother to cancer, deals with the emotional aftermath... anybody else frankly tired of that storyline? Plus it's a novel-in-verse, and those have to work really hard to please me. I'm a super tough critic of those. Definitely a NAY.
I enjoyed this book and thought that it was a unique way to cover a delicate topic. I liked how the poems expressed the feelings of the main character. And I especially liked that it was a quick read. :) YAY
I thought Yeomans did a good job of discussing grief in poetry form, however, there is just not enough depth here to be any different than all of the other books on grief. I have to give it a NAY.
I enjoyed this book as well and thought the way the author dealt with grief was touching. However, do I think this book is award worthy? No. I have to give it a NAY.
