General Winston's Daughter by Sharon Shinn
Averie Winston travels to a new land to be reunited with her father and fiance who are in the military. Upon her arrival, Averie immerses herself in the culture, falls in love with someone else, and a final act of betrayal will surprise readers beyond measure.
One of my top three favorites. Loved the adventure, and the culture and how it would make a great discussion piece in light of today's ongoing war with Iraq. And Sharon Shinn is one of my favorite authors and this was just an absolutely spectacular read!
I didn't care much for this book. While I can see the discussion appeal, the characters remained somewhat flat to me and the first 3/4 of the story was fairly predictable.
I liked the book I thought it was timely, but please please please take the final half of the final sentence out of the description because it totally ruined the surprise for me!!

This is a timely book, and the twist at the end came as a surprise. But it isn't one of the top 5 for me.
