Book of a Thousand Days by Shannon Hale
Dashti, a royal maid, finds on her first day on the job that she and Lady Saren are to be locked in a tower for seven years. After she discovers that her lady is mentally fragile and has been terrified by something that happened in her past, Dashti uses her wits to fight for their very survival.
Didn't do much for me, though I love Shannon Hale and flipped/fractured fairy tales and it was obvious that Hale put a lot of work into researching the origins of her story and a lot of imagination into the new setting.
I liked the story but am a bit ambivalent about it as well. It was a fast read but mostly forgettable. I did really like the illustrations, though, and I think they added a lot to the text.
This book was a little disappointing to me. I was expecting more. It's a good story, but slow in spots. Hale fans will still like it, but I don't think it is her best.

I love Shannon Hale! And I know others loved this book, but for me personally, it really didn't do anything for me, crazy I know.

I really loved this book. I found myself thinking about the characters and especially the Mucker songs long after I finished it.
I thought it was a good book but that's all. Not in my top picks.
