Skulduggery Pleasant by Derek Landy
On her first night at her inherited estate, 12-year-old Stephanie is mysteriously attacked. Luckily, the living, wisecracking skeleton named Skulduggery Pleasant comes to her rescue. Stephanie is thrown into Skulduggery's world of trolls, vampires, and strange creatures as the duo tries to stop Nefarian Serpine from finding a powerful scepter and taking over the world.

A fun read, but I don't think it's award worthy. There were so many that I think were more substantive while still being enjoyable.
LOVED this book, and have been booktalking it like mad since I finished it last week. This is one I'll proudly be an evangelist for.
Not quite done, yet. I'm listening on audio and it is SUPERB. It reminds me of Harry Potter, and is definitely a what do I read after Harry pick. I like it, but not in my top 5.
I listened to this and it was a delightful audio book. One of my teens voted for this one. I think it is funny and orginal, and can't wait for the sequel which must be on the way.
