Tough Boy Sonatas by Curtis L. Crisler
Overall I didn't enjoy this book of poetry that describes life for a Gary, Indiana teen. I didn't think that it was easy to relate to and it didn't make me feel like I could truly put myself in the subject's shoes. The illustrations didn't contribute much to the poems either. Definite NAY.
I agree with Kip in that there are a few powerful poems. As a Flint native, I certainly could identigy with many of the issues Crisler wrote about. I believe this collection of poems would be better appreciated by adults, not teens and that is why I have to say NAY.

While there are a couple of powerful poems here, the material seems quite repetitive and is never very accessible. NAY
