The sweet, terrible, glorious year I truly, completely lost it by Lisa Shanahan
This was a nice YA debut, but not award-worthy in my opinion. Gemma was a funny, sweet character, but the story vacilated between goofy Australian-YA and issue novel in an unconvincing manner. I think she was going for a Looking for Celia kind of feel and missed. I will look forward to her other books, but nay for '07.

I'm totally with you on this.. there were portions of the book that were "issue" novel-ish and unnecessarily dramatic. I thought this detracted from the novel and made the end odd and stilted. NAY.
